After the dissolution of P.S. Eliot and before they started Waxahatchee and Swearin’, Allison and Katie Crutchfield traded off writing pop punk songs in the short-lived project Bad Banana. After their Crushfield demo, Bad Banana released their only 7”, Cry About It, on Puzzle Pieces Records, and it’s now back in print!
Each twin’s diverging style is evident in each song that she wrote, but they come together for four cohesive, nasal, and lo-fi pop songs. The record’s stop-and-go urgency is most evident in “LeAnna,” an under two-minute song that smacks of drinking, friendship, and being 22. Recorded at home in Birmingham, Alabama by Kyle Gilbride of Wherever Audio (who also plays bass on this record!). For fans of Big Eyes and ‘90s K Records pop. Stream available here.
